Considerable research has indicated that exercise is beneficial\u00a0to physical, cognitive, and emotional health. Recent studies\u00a0further suggest that physical activity has positive effects on cognitive\u00a0performance, those related to executive function in particular,\u00a0in children and elderly population. Attention-Deficit\/Hyperactivity\u00a0Disorder (ADHD) is a chronic, high prevalence neurodevelopmental\u00a0psychiatric disorder that manifests in childhood. The main characteristics of ADHD are inattention and hyperactivity\/impulsiveness,\u00a0with behavioral inhibition considered a core deficit of this disease.\u00a0A growing body of research has focused on the effects of physical\u00a0activity on the symptoms and cognitive function of children with\u00a0ADHD. Moreover, some studies have begun to adopt a neuroscience\u00a0approach to address this issue. The purposes of this review paper\u00a0are: First, to review papers that use neuroelectric measurement such\u00a0as event-related potentials (ERP) for children with ADHD on inhibition\u00a0control; Second, to review papers that examined the effects of\u00a0physical activity on symptoms and cognitive function in children\u00a0with ADHD using cross-sectional studies, acute exercise interventions,\u00a0and long-term exercise interventions. Additionally, the potential\u00a0underlying neural mechanisms of the positive effects of physical\u00a0exercise will be discussed. Third, prospects and recommendations\u00a0for future research will be provided. Specifically, this paper posits\u00a0that more rigid research designs are needed to examine issues related\u00a0to the parameters of exercise prescriptions, broader aspects of cognitive\u00a0function, and control of confounding variables. Lastly, a combination\u00a0of behavioral and neuroelectric measurements for understanding\u00a0underlying neural mechanisms is recommended.<\/p>\n
