The study surveyed 119 chronical outpatients, explored the structures\u00a0of illness-control beliefs, the degrees of relatively perceived control among\u00a0different domains, and patient\u2019s life adjustment states. After factor analysis,\u00a0we found there were four-factor structures in illness-control beliefs;\u00a0namely, interpretation\/prediction, sense of self-efficacy, other-directed\u00a0mastery and instrumental rationality. According to the results, it showed\u00a0the patients with the illness-control beliefs of interpretation\/prediction and\u00a0sense of self-efficacy tended to have a better life adjustment states, yet the\u00a0patients with the illness-control beliefs of other-directed mastery and\u00a0instrumental rationality got the contrary outcomes. In the nine dimensions\u00a0of control targets, the patients felt they could control better than the\u00a0medical staff on the domains of \u201ceveryday life\u201d from their illness\u00a0experiences. But on the domains of \u201cmedical regime\u201d, they perceived the\u00a0medical staff got more power to control. Finally, we pointed out the\u00a0dialectics of control over chronic illness, and discussed the implications in\u00a0the clinical practice regarding the research results.<\/p>\n
