The purpose of this study is, through a comprehensive\u00a0biopsychosocial assessment, history taking, physical and biofeedback\u00a0evaluation to clarify the basic clinical symptomatology of tension-type\u00a0headache, then to probe into the pathophysiology mechanism and\u00a0psychosocial factors about this disease. We hope that the results can be\u00a0provided for an empirical foundation for clinical assessment and treatment\u00a0work. This study took three years. We have recruited 58 patients with\u00a0tension-type headache. We interviewed them with headache evaluation\u00a0scale to collect basic clinical symptomatology. And, we tested two\u00a0pathophysiological hypotheses, the muscle contraction hypothesis and the\u00a0oversensitivity of autonomic nervous system hypothesis. Then, we\u00a0matched 29 tension-type headache patients as headache group with 21\u00a0non-headache adults as control group, and compared the differences of\u00a0physical and biofeedback evaluation, emotional response, and social\u00a0resources between the two groups. About symptomatology, pulsating pain,\u00a0which is used as an exclusive criterion, was found in our chronic\u00a0tension-type headache patients. Although the results didn\u2019t support the\u00a0muscle contraction hypothesis and the oversensitivity of autonomic\u00a0nervous system hypothesis, we can not rule out other probable\u00a0pathophysiological mechanism. On psychological reaction, the anxiety\u00a0emotion of headache group is higher then that of control group. On social\u00a0resources, both subjectively received affective resources and material\u00a0resources of headache group are lesser then those of control group. In\u00a0other words, besides probable pathophysiological mechanism, higher\u00a0emotional response and lesser social resources would contribute to the\u00a0symptom.<\/p>\n
