Lin<\/strong><br \/>\nDepartment of Industrial Engineering and Management\u00a0I-Shou University<br \/>\n<strong>Yen-Ru Liu<\/strong><br \/>\nDepartment of Industrial Engineering and Management\u00a0I-Shou University<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The present study examines how older adults respond to an in-vehicle\u00a0navigation interface under manipulation of map rotation and map hierarchy. 8\u00a0senior subjects participated in a simulation experiment where their\u00a0performances in road identification and error-turn recovery were evaluated.\u00a0The study used a within-subject factorial design in which each subject\u00a0received a series of 6 test treatments comprising 3 levels of map hierarchy in\u00a0terms of information completeness and two types of map rotation. The results\u00a0indicated that map rotation had significant effects on the older subject\u2019s\u00a0accuracy of road identification, while map hierarchy and the hierarchy x\u00a0rotation interaction exhibited no significant effects. With respect to error-turn\u00a0recovery, the results revealed that both map hierarchy and rotation have\u00a0significant effects but no interaction existed. It was suggested that for older\u00a0drivers, a digital map with complete spatial information is required in relation\u00a0to a north-up interface, whilst the demand of spatial information decreases\u00a0when track-up orientation is displayed.
