The present research focused on real conflicts between parents and\u00a0children in their daily life situations, exploring the parents\u2019 and children\u2019s\u00a0perceptions of their conflicting experiences, to discover mechanisms underlying\u00a0their recurring conflicts. Two pairs of parents and children were invited to\u00a0participate. The conflicting processes of parents and children were videotaped\u00a0and participants were later interviewed. Results showed that the conflict\u00a0processes were generally composed of the following three conditions: \u201dconflict\u00a0brewing\u201d, \u201cconflict explosion\u201d and \u201cconflict release\u201d. Moreover, the above\u00a0three conditions were often repeated several times till both parents and children\u00a0stop initiating interactions with each other. In the conflicting process, the\u00a0perceptions of parents included three steps: \u201cexpecting and enduring\u201d, \u201closing\u00a0temper\u201d and \u201ccalming down and getting released\u201d. On the other hand, the\u00a0perceptions of children typically included \u201cbeing pressed and powerless\u201d,\u00a0\u201cbeing prudent and glancing\u201d and \u201cescaping from step-in the land-mine and\u00a0getting released\u201d. In summary, rigid conflict patterns during interactions\u00a0between parents and children may be the major reason for which conflicts can\u00a0not be resolved.<\/p>\n
