The main purpose of the study was to explore the subjective experiences of\u00a0the organ donation families, their decision-making processes, underlying\u00a0motivations and intense emotions in order to reconstruct the unique\u00a0psychological worlds of these great families. A total of nine organ donation\u00a0families \uff0814 members\uff09 were interviewed in-depth. Three hospital social\u00a0workers and one organ recipient were also interviewed to open up multiple\u00a0perspectives on the issue of organ donation. Major results were presented\u00a0pertaining to: emotional reactions to the brain death of family members, as well\u00a0as coping strategies, effects of donors\u2019 declaration on decision-making, sources\u00a0of organ donation, characteristics of the main decision makers, objections of\u00a0family relatives, influences of various religions, and roles of the medical\u00a0professions, the meanings of organ donation, family members\u2019 opinions of organ\u00a0recipient, influences of counseling groups, grief adaptation and further\u00a0psycho-social needs. Three issues were further discussed: accepting death or\u00a0lingering solace, individual decision or group decision, and social support or\u00a0social obstruction.<\/p>\n
