Hsu<\/strong><br \/>\nLaboratory for Cognitive Neuropsychology<br \/>\nInstitute of Neuroscience\u00a0National Yang Ming University<\/p>\n<p>This paper examines the patterns of language processing in individuals with\u00a0cognitive deficits. The cognitive profile of patients with Williams syndrome, a\u00a0genetic disorder, is taken as an example to investigate the interaction between\u00a0genetic deficits and cognition. This interaction influences individual developments,\u00a0which in turn lead to atypical trajectories. As cognitive deficits affect individuals\u2019\u00a0language processing, through various language testing, we do find that people\u00a0with Williams syndrome are inferior to the people of the same mental age in the\u00a0match group with various language tasks. The findings also indicate that there are\u00a0strengths and weaknesses within their language ability.
