This paper principally discusses how the empirical psychology,\u00a0psychiatry as an example, is based on the philosophical level of\u00a0phenomenology. It is in general to explore the philosophical level\u00a0which the empirical level certainly has presupposed, but not yet\u00a0explicated. The purpose of the article is to argue that the psychological\u00a0research should be based on the level of value or that of the meaning of\u00a0\u201cBeing\u201d which Heidegger\u2019s philosophy has disclosed. Of course, this\u00a0proposition needs to be further examined and inspected. The article\u00a0starts with an observation on the genesis of DSM, which is based on\u00a0reliability, and that of the doctor\/patient relationship as well as the\u00a0medicare environment established by the DSM, and it is followed by a\u00a0philosophical reflection on the theory proposed. Then it continues to\u00a0make an ontological reflection on the epistemological truth of validity\u00a0from which Edmund Husserl\u2019s phenomenology is oriented, and to\u00a0explain in detail the ontological truth of value which Heidegger\u2019s\u00a0phenomenology stresses. In the next section, a Hungarian scholar\u2019s\u00a0interpretation of Heidegger\u2019s thinking on the meaning of value is\u00a0introduced. In the last part, the article will review Heidegger\u2019s\u00a0reflection on the methodology of modern psychiatry. This paper\u00a0concludes: The essential difference between quantitative and\u00a0qualitative research methods of the psychology lies in the different\u00a0understandings about philosophical truth; and their difference can be\u00a0shown by the variable emphasis upon reliability, validity or value. It\u00a0should be kept in mind that the conditions of possibility of reliability,\u00a0validity and value in the life-world that would generate meanings may\u00a0be limited to the philosophical and ontological level, while the\u00a0empirical level and the relationship between both levels are topics that\u00a0can be further explored.<\/p>\n
