\nDomestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention Center\u00a0Taipei County Government<\/p>\n

This article is a reflection on the prevention of domestic violence, based on the author\u2019s 13 years of experience working and participating not only with local network but also global connections. As a woman and a social worker who worked continuously in the prevention of family violence, the author learned from this dual role that networking is essential. I found strength through connected with people while loneliness and frustration were so familiar to both mine and the clients\u2019 I worked with. Through my own reflection, I have recognized the importance of equal rights among genders and its practice in daily life. Currently, the notion of \u201cgender mainstreaming\u201d, a strategy raised internationally has served another source of power for the local workers who strived to make a difference.
\nIn this article, the author also reviewed relevant statistics and research\u00a0findings of family violence against women in Taiwan as well as other countries. In support of my experiences when observed during the 49th UN-CSW annual conferences and various NGO workshops 2005, the author gave a comprehensive examination on the history of Taiwan\u2019s prevention of family violence from 4 perspectives, namely, the society\u2019s response to women victims, the features of family violence prevention in Taiwan, gender issues in casework services, and voice from the victims.<\/p>\n
