As the structure of Taiwanese society has been evolving from\u00a0agricultural society to industrial and commercial one, and influenced\u00a0by the western culture in the mean time, the call for gender equity\u00a0suddenly arises. Responding to the circumstances, the family structure\u00a0has been gradually transformed from a patriarchal extended family to\u00a0nuclear family of husband-and-wife core. While relationship customs\u00a0among family members ran from a male-centered pattern to gender\u00a0equity, from one-way power to two-way balance of power, and\u00a0individual independence has replaced collective consciousness, the\u00a0connection and transition between traditional values and modern ones\u00a0could not avoid the dilemma for family members to adapt themselves\u00a0to the changes and to reconcilation. Although some fathers try to build\u00a0equal and intimate relationship with their children, the dominance of\u00a0traditional fatherhood still remains and is being passed on. For they\u00a0have been asked for the cultural morality of ethic order required by\u00a0Confucianism. Phenomenon of \u201cFathers just don\u2019t teach sons\u00a0themselves.\u201d \u201cFathers should treat their sons with austerity, and can\u2019t\u00a0have fun with their children,\u201d and \u201cFathers should keep distant with\u00a0their children\u201d still remains in many modern father-and-son\u00a0relationships.
\nUnder the circumstance of change of Taiwanese society, the\u00a0evolution of the meaning, function and pattern of family has led to the\u00a0qualitative change of parentage. Meanwhile, the juvenile problems\u00a0have been valued and explored more and more. As digenesis starts,\u00a0how do the middle-aged males, inheriting their father positioned in the\u00a0core of patriarchy cultural beliefs and values, apprehend how their\u00a0interaction with their fathers influences their intimate relation with\u00a0their juvenile sons in the waves of gender consciousness raised by\u00a0feminism? The transformation, evolution and inheritance of intimacy\u00a0across generations between fathers and sons are the focus of this\u00a0research.
\nTo let the interviewees talk deeply about the cross-generational\u00a0influence of their own father-son intimate relationships, the researcher\u00a0adopt the depth interview of qualitative research for data gathering; the\u00a0data analysis goes with narrative analysis for systematic clarification.\u00a0As for the research sampling, this study adopts purposive sampling and\u00a0snowball sampling. The objects invited in this research are\u00a0middle-aged fathers between thirty-five and sixty in nuclear families\u00a0with their sons attending junior high schools.
\nThis study represents five differences and influences of\u00a0cross-generational intimacy of father-and-son relationship:(1)From\u00a0detached indifference to dreaming of brotherhood;(2)From tangle of\u00a0alienation and family love to conflict between;(3)responsibility and\u00a0intimacy;(4)From euphemistically earthy care to practically necessary\u00a0response;(5)From negative attention to multiple interaction;(6)From\u00a0perspective fusion to personal reflection.<\/p>\n
