Psychophysiology is a research approach in the study of sport and\u00a0exercise psychology. Electroencephalography(EEG) is the form of\u00a0measurement most widely used among physiological measurement\u00a0techniques in this area of research. EEG psychophysiological studies in
\nsport psychology have mainly focused on mental states associated with\u00a0sport performance. Studies on the relationship between EEG and\u00a0performance suggest that brain efficiency is the neural print of optimal\u00a0mental states. Optimal mental states are characterized by a reduction of\u00a0interference from nonessential cognitive processes. Furthermore,\u00a0interference reduction can be learned through neurofeedback training.\u00a0On the other hand, EEG psychophysiological studies in exercise\u00a0psychology have focused on the relationship between exercise and\u00a0cognitive as well as the emotional function of the brain. Research has\u00a0shown that exercise can effectively slow down aging-associated\u00a0cognitive degeneration. Exercise also has a positive impact on brain\u00a0processes related to emotional regulation. These findings connect the\u00a0potential application and relevance of EEG psychophysiology to the\u00a0study of sport and exercise psychology.<\/p>\n
