Children who witness domestic violence experience both\u00a0short-term and long-term trauma, and exhibit externalizing or\u00a0internalizing symptoms, as well as difficulties in interpersonal\u00a0relationships. Since 2002, there have been more therapy groups that\u00a0focus on helping children who have witnessed domestic violence in\u00a0Taiwan. However, the effectiveness of these therapy groups has never\u00a0been thoroughly and systematically examined. The aim of the study\u00a0was to explore children\u2019s perspective regarding participation in drama\u00a0group therapy.\u00a0Using qualitative research, the principal investigator interviewed\u00a0children who participated in drama group therapy at Good Shaper\u00a0Foundation. Participants reported the following changes:
\n1. Increasing awareness of their feelings, thoughts, body,\u00a0behaviors, as well as achieving better self-image.
\n2. Understanding sexual-physical development and discovering\u00a0their own body-image.
\n3. Learning more about the concept of violence.
\n4. Learning how to interact with peers.
\n5. Demonstrating creativity and gaining a sense of achievement.
\n6. Making the link between past traumatic experiences and group\u00a0processes and topics.
\n7. Thinking more about their own close relationships.
\nResults of the present study demonstrate that drama group can\u00a0enhance the positive effect of drama therapy for children and\u00a0adolescents who have witnessed domestic violence, and can be a source\u00a0of inspiration for social workers and therapists.<\/p>\n
